  10. Additional Points

1) SPEED CARDS (Committing to memory of a deck of 52 playing cards)

The arbiter will compare each card from the memorized pack with the order written on the answer sheet. At the first mistake between the two orders. Correct answers after the first mistake will not be evaluated.

If a competitor recalls less than 52 cards, his or her memorization time will be accepted as the whole 360 seconds. The actual memorization time of the competitor whose recall is perfect will be used. The following formula will be used for calculating the scores;

Points = [1000/(t/30)] * [c/52]

t = memorization time in seconds

c = the number of correct cards until the first mistake

In this category a new shuffled deck will be given and a second trial right will be given to the competitors. The better points from the scores obtained from each attempt will be valid. In case of ties, the competitors’ second scores be considered.

2) NAMES AND FACES (To commit to memory and recall as many names and surnames as possible of 99 people’s pictures)

"1" point for every "name" written correctly and "1" point for every "surname" written correctly will be given.

"0.5" point for every first name that is phonetically correct but incorrectly spelt and also "0.5" point for every surname that is phonetically correct but incorrectly spelt will be given. For example; "0.5" point will be given to the competitor who writes "Michael" as "Micheal". Partial point will be given to the competitor who writes only "first name" or "surname" correctly. Total point will be obtained with the addition of points got. In case of ties, the number of "name and surname" written wrong by the competitors will be considered. The contestant with fewer incorrectly assigned photographs is the winner.

The competitor who gets the top score wins the event.

3) NUMBERS MARATHON (To commit to memory as many digits - randomly consist of 10 different digits from 0 to 9 - as possible from 125 lines of 40-digit numbers and recall them perfectly)

"40" points will be given for each complete row of 40-digit number recalled correctly. "20" points will be given for each row of 40-digit number recalled with only one digit mistake. For every complete row of 40-digit number that has two or more mistakes (including missing digits) 0 points will be given. For the last row recalled only, if the last row is incomplete (e.g. only first 32 numbers written down) and all of the digits written down are correct, then a partial point will be given (32 in this example).

If the last row is not complete and there is only one digit mistake in this row, then the points will be given as the half of the digit numbers recalled (e.g. 32/2=16 points will be given). "0" points will be given for the last row recalled with 2 or more digit mistakes.

In case of ties, the rates of correctness in the answers which the competitors get "0" points will be compared. Who has fewer mistakes will be the winner.

The competitor who gets the top score wins the event.

4) BINARY DIGITS (To commit to memory as many binary digits - randomly consist of 0 and 1 like 011001010 - as possible from 175 lines of 30-digit binary numbers and recall them perfectly)

"30" points will be given for each complete row of 30-digit number recalled correctly. "15" points will be given for each row of 30-digit number recalled with only one digit mistake. For every complete row of 30-digit number that has two or more mistakes (including missing digits) 0 points will be given. For the last line or row recalled only, if the last row is incomplete (e.g. only first 18 digits written down) and all of the digits written down are correct, then a partial point will be given (18 in this example).

If the last row is not complete and there is only one digit mistake in this row, then the points will be given as the half of the digit numbers recalled (e.g. 18/2=9 points will be given). "0" points will be given for the last row recalled with 2 or more digit mistakes.

In case of ties, the rates of correctness in the answers which the competitors get "0" points will be compared. Who has fewer mistakes will be the winner.

The competitor who gets the top score wins the event.

5-6-) MENTAL ADDITIONS AND MENTAL MULTIPLICATIONS (1 point will be given for each correct answer)

"1" point will be given for each correct answer. It does not matter how many wrong or correct digits are present if the answer is wrong. Therefore, partial point is not involved in these categories. The competitors who are expected to do this task in less than the overall time of the task must inform the committee of the organization beforehand. For them, the committee of organization will appoint special adjudicator with a 1/100 second sensitive chronometer. The competitor must inform the adjudicator about his/her appropriate signal that his or her mental calculation is over. After completion of the task, the answer sheet will be closed and the competitor will wait silently until other competitors complete their tasks.

If the competitor completes his answers by using less time than the time given and the time used is recorded, this condition will be considered in case of equality of the number of correct answers.

"1" point will be given for each correct answer for the following categories;

● Ten "mental addition of ten ten-digit numbers"
● Ten "mental multiplication of two eight-digit numbers"

If a competitor completes the answers in less than the full task time and if all ten answers are correct, then he or she will earn additional points in relation to their time used. (please read the part titled as "Additional Points for Completely Correct Solutions" for counting additional points).

7-) MENTAL SQUARE ROOTS (Extracting ten square roots from ten different six-digit numbers - solutions with an accuracy of eight digits or up to five digits from comma)

In this category, partial points will be given by progressive stages for each digit written correctly up to the digit from left to right in which a mistake is made, as below :

From left to right, one point for the first digit given correctly, two points for the second digit given correctly, …, 8 points for the eight digit given correctly.

In short;

A total of "1" point will be given for the answer of which only a digit from the leftest side is correct.

A total of "3" (1+2) points will be given for the answer of which only two digits from the leftest side are correct.

A total of "6" (=1+2+3) points will be given for the answer of which only three digits from the leftest side are correct.

A total of "36" (=1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8) points will be given for the each exact correct answer.

The criterias explained below will be applied so that how many digits from the leftest side are correct is determined:

While determining the number of the correct digits, "M", number of maximum digits that the competitor writes as the answer will be considered. The real correct answer will be rounded to "M" figures and this answer rounded result will be compared with the answer of the competitor;

Points will be given for maximum 8 digits. Therefore, in this category a total of maximum 360 points can be counted for ten correct square roots.

The scores will be explained by the following examples:

588102 (correct: 766.87808679...).

Comments

7 or 700 1 1
752 1 1 Only one correct digit
76 or 760 1 1 The correct answer is "770" when rounded from left second digit, not "760"!
77 or 770 2 3 Look at the column above
766 2 3
767 3 6
766.8 3 6
766.88 5 15
766.8780 6 21 The given answer cannot be correct with "7" digit from the left. The real correct answer is 766,8781 when rounded from the left to 7th digit.
766.87808679 8 36 Perfect!
766.8780867908 8 36 Maximum "36" points can be given for each correct answer!

The competitors with the same points as total will share the rank (It means that there may be ranks such as two people in the third rank or in the fifth rank).

If a competitor completes the answers in less than the full task time and if all ten answers are correct, then he or she will earn additional points in relation to their time used. (please read the part titled as  "Additional Points for Completely Correct Solutions" for counting additional points).

8) MENTAL CALENDAR DATES (Calculating mentally the week day of 50 Gregorian calendar dates randomly selected from the year of 1600 to 2100)

The dates given are numbered from 1 to 50. Only one maximum mistake is allowed to be made in the answers. In a chain of answers, let’s say k is the maximum number in which there is only one mistake or a blank answer between question number "1" and "k". Then the total points to be given is "k-1". After the second mistake or a second blank answer the correct answers beyond this point will not be counted.

9) PHOTOGRAPHIC SPEED READING (Determining the photographic reading speed and the rate of understanding of an unpublished long new text, book or booklet supplied by the committee of Memoriad organization)

The competitors whose rate of understanding is under 60% will be disqualified. In case of ties in the first three ranks, a second test including additional questions about the text will be given to the competitors in equal ranks.

Photographic speed reading points will be calculated as the multiplicatin of reading speed value and the rate of understanding. Let’s say a competitors raw reading speed is 1400 words per minute and his or her rate of understanding is % 70, then the total points count is (1400x0.70=) 980 words per minute or points.

ADDITIONAL POINTS (For completely correct solutionst obtained in less time than the maximum time.)

Except for "Mental Calendar" and "Photographic Speed Reading" categories, provided that the competitor’s all answers are correct and he or she used less time than the total time given, he or she will be given additional points.

Additional points will be calculated as given below by the rate of the time used by the competitor in the relative category to the maximum time given for the task.

Additional Points = t / T

t = The total time used by the competitor (as seconds)

T = The maximum time given for the relative task (as seconds)

T = 600 for additions and multiplication; T = 900 for square roots.
