The sheet of questions of relative category will
be put on on the table in front of every
participant as closed. All tasks are the same
for all participants. The questions will be
opened when the chief referee signals and the
competition time will start up. After the
starting signal, each participant has to turn
around the sheet of paper or papers and tries to
do expected task or tasks in the given time.
Opening the questions before starting signal
will cause the participant to be disqualified.
The completion of the competition time will
again be declared by the chief referee of the
competition by signaling and with this signal
all competitors will put their question or
answer sheets down as closed and will wait
quietly until their sheets being collected.
Unreadable solutions or answers will be rated
wrong in case of doubts!
All tasks (mental calculation and recall
tasks) must be done mentally, aids and written
calculations (or written intermediate results in
mental calculations) are not permitted! Using
mobile phones, recording devices, calculators,
namely any devices will not be permitted. If a
solution has to be corrected, this should happen
in an unmistakable way on the sheet. The
possibility of correction may not be misused to
write down intermediate results. In mental
calculation categories, the competitor will use
the pen or pencil for only writing the results.
The correctness of the answers will be more
important than the speed or time used. The
priority will be the correctness of the answer
(e.g. if ten tasks are to be solved, then eight
correct solutions in ten minutes will in any
case be better ranked than seven correct
solutions in two minutes). However, in case of
equal number of the answers the speed or the
time used will be considered.
Provided that it will be informed beforehand,
for physically handicapped participants, who are
unable to read the tasks or write down the
solutions, the jury may set special rules and
make necessary arrangements.
All competitors are expected to be silent
during the competition. Competitors who disturb
others will be disqualified. For example; a
competitor whose mobile phone is ringing at the
moment of competition will be disqualified
immediately.

II-SPECIAL RULES FOR SINGLE COMPETITIONS |
 |
|
|
1) SPEED CARDS
(Committing to
memory of a deck of 52 playing cards) |
 |
|
(There will be two attempts at this
category with a new ‘shuffled’ deck each
time)
Memorization Time : 6 Minutes (for each
attempt)
Recall Time : 5 Minutes (for each
attempt)
A shuffled deck of 52-playing cards will
be distributed to each competitors at
each attempt. The competitors will try
to commit the order of the cards to
memory in 6 minutes time. The
competitors who are expected to do this
task in less than 6 minutes must inform
the committee of the organization
beforehand. For them, the committee of
organization will appoint special
adjudicator with a 1/100 second
sensitive chronometer. The competitor
must inform the adjudicator about
his/her appropriate signal that
indicates that the memorization task has
finished. During memorization the cards
can be looked at repeatedly and more
than one card can be looked at
simultaneously.
After memorization, the deck of playing
cards committed to memory will be put in
its box without changing the order (as
the top card being the first one
memorized) and the name of the
competitor will be written on the box.
Then the competitor will wait silently
until other competitors complete this
task.
After the chief referee of the
competition announced that the time for
this category is completed, a standard
answer sheet prepared for this category
will be distributed to each competitors
so that they can write their answers.
The competitor has to write his answers
on that paper in 5 minutes (as 1st: 3 of
spades; 2nd : Jack of Clubs; 3rd : 2 of
diamonds). When the finish of 5 minute
recall time given is announced, the
competitor will put his pencil or pen
down immediately. After the completion
announcement, the competitor who writes
anything in the answer sheet will be
disqualified.
Later, the chief referee will take each
competitor’s deck of playing cards and
answer sheet by attaching each other and
the evaluation will be made.
In this category, a new deck namely a
second trial right will be given to the
competitors. From the results obtained
from both attempts, the better score
will count.
The competitor, who correctly memorizes
all 52 cards in the quickest time, wins
the event.

2) NAMES AND FACES
(To commit to
memory and recall as many names and
surnames as possible of 99 people’s
pictures) |
 |
|
Memorization Time : 15 Minutes
Recall Time: 30 Minutes
The same 99 pictures of people will be
distributed to the competitors in 11
sheets of A4 paper. On each page, are
there 9 pictures with their first names
and surnames written underneath each
picture. The memorization papers will be
opened by the signal of the chief
referee and 15-minute-competition time
will start up. The competitors will try
to commit to as many first names and
surnames of the pictures to memory and
link them to the right face during the
memorization time. With the signal of
completion of the time, the competitors
will put the question sheets down as
closed.
After collecting question papers, the
answer sheets will be distributed to the
competitors. The pictures in the
question papers will be given in mixed
order in the answer papers and the
section of "first name and surname"
under the pictures will be blank. The
competitors are expected to write as
many correct first names and surnames as
possible under each pictures during 30
minutes recall time.

memory as many digits - randomly consist
of 10 different digits from 0 to 9 - as
possible from 125 lines of 40-digit
numbers and recall them perfectly) |
 |
|
Memorization Time : 60 Minutes
Recall Time : 90 Minutes
In this category, competitors will try
to comit as many lines of numbers as
possible to memory from a list of 125
lines of 40-digit numbers created at
random by the computer. Each lines of
numbers will be different and will
consist of different combinations of ten
digits (0, 1, 2, 3, ….., 8, 9).
Question sheets will be given to
competitors as five A4 size papers as
closed. There is 25 lines of numbers on
each page. And on each line, is there a
40-digit number. Each line number is
written in front of each 40-digit number
(as in; Line 21: 436587900...).
As the chief referee signals, question
papers will be opened and 60 minute
memorization time will start. Within
this time competitors will try to commit
to memory as many as possible from 125
lines of 40-digit numbers. With the
signal of completion time, the
competitors will put the question papers
down as closed.
After collecting the question sheets,
the answer sheets will be distributed to
the competitors. The competitors will
try to write the ones they remember from
125 lines of 40-digit numbers on the
answer sheets within 90 minutes.
Competitors must write their recalled
40-digit numbers next to their
corresponding line numbers. Those lines
whose corresponding 40-digit numbers are
not recalled should be left blank. When
that the 90-minute recall time is
completed is announced the competitors
will put their pens or pencils down.

4) BINARY DIGITS
(To commit to
memory as many binary digits - randomly
consist of 0 and 1 like 011001010 - as
possible from 175 lines of 30-digit
binary numbers and recall them perfectly) |
 |
|
Memorization Time : 30 Minutes
Recall Time : 60 Minutes
In this category, competitors will try
to commit as many lines of numbers as
possible to memory from a list of 175
lines of 30-digit binary numbers created
at random by the computer. Each lines of
numbers will be different and will
consist of different combinations of 0
an 1 (e.g. 11101001100110101111...).
Question sheets will be given to
competitors as seven A4 size papers as
closed. There is 25 lines of numbers on
each page. And on each line, is there a
30-digit number. Each line number is
written in front of each 30-digit number
(as in; Line 21:
010001101110...). As the chief referee
signals, question papers will be opened
and 30 minute memorization time will
start. Within this time competitors will
try to commit to memory as many as
possible from 175 lines of 30-digit
numbers. With the signal of completion
time, the competitors will put the
question papers down as closed.
After collecting the question sheets,
the answer sheets will be distributed to
the competitors. The competitors will
try to write the ones they remember from
175 lines of 30-digit binary numbers on
the answer sheets within 60 minutes.
Competitors must write their recalled
30-digit numbers next to their
corresponding line numbers. Those lines
whose corresponding 30-digit numbers are
not recalled should be left blank. When
that the 60 minute recall time is
completed is announced the competitors
will put their pens or pencils down.

5) MENTAL ADDITIONS
(Ten Mental
addition of ten ten-digit numbers) |
 |
|
Time : 10 Minutes
As in the following example, ten
questions of ten 10-digit addition will
be given;
2050683165
9349894647

4290187250
3967093178
5167125456
+____________
All numbers will be chosen randomly and
each number will be ten-digit (therefore
there will be not any numbers of which
first digit is zero). The answer will be
the addition of the numbers given. The
competitor can write the answer as
adding the columns. However, he cannot
write sub results such as the addition
of each column and on hand anywhere.
When the time is over announced the
competitors will put their pens or
pencils down.

6) MENTAL
MULTIPLICATIONS
(Ten Mental
multiplication of two 8-digit numbers) |
 |
|
Time: 15 Minutes
As in the following example, ten
questions of two 8-digit number
multiplication will be given;
43765643
91467149
X___________
(If the competitor would like the
multiplication question forms like
43765643 x 91467149, he or she should
inform the committee of the organization
beforehand so that they make the
necessary arrengements)
All numbers will be chosen randomly and
each number will be eight-digit (so
there will be no numbers of which first
digit is zero). The answer will be the
multiplication of the numbers given. As
the competitor makes the mental
multiplication, he can write the last
result of the multiplication from right
to left or from left to right in order.
However, while the multiplication is
made in mind, intermediate-results and
results on hand cannot be written at any
corner of the paper or anywhere. All
intermediate results will be committed
to memory and the final result will be
written. When the time is over announced
the competitors will put their pens or
pencils down.

|
7) MENTAL SQUARE ROOTS
(Extracting ten
square roots from ten different
six-digit numbers - solutions with an
accuracy of eight digits or up to five
digits from comma) |
 |
|
Time: 15 Minutes
As in the following example the square
root value of ten numbers will be found
in mind.
√530179
All numbers will be chosen randomly and
each number will be six-digit (so
there will not be any numbers of which
the first digit is zero in the task of
square root).
The solution will be the square root
from that number with an accuracy of
eight digits at maximum with being up to
the 5th digit after the comma. However
the 5th digit after the comma will be
rounded off according to the 6th digit
after the comma.
For the example, for√587247 the correct
solution is 766.32042906..., the
solution with 8 significant digits will
be 766.32043 (not 766.32042). When the
time is over announcement is made the
competitors will put their pens or
pencils down.

8) MENTAL CALENDAR DATES
(Calculating
mentally the week day of 50 Gregorian
calendar dates randomly selected from
the year of 1600 to 2100) |
 |
|
Time: 1 Minute
Fifty dates as seen below will be
given.
04-11-1756 (For 4 November 1756; The
first number will be the day, the second
number will be the month and the third
number will be the year)
All dates will be chosen randomly from
the beginning of 1600 to the end of
2100. All dates will be given as
Gregorian dates.
The answer will be the correct day of
the week of the given date (the correct
answer for this example is Thursday).
For the answer, the abbreviation of the
days is allowed to be used so that they
become clear and do not cause any chaos.
For example; abbreviation style as Sun,
Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri and Sat is
suitable. However, the use of numbers
for abbreviation of the days (for
example; 1=Monday, 2=Tuesday…) will not
be allowed to be used. The answer
causing doubt because of being uncertain
and unclear will be considered as false.
When the time is over announcement is
made the competitors will put their pens
or pencils down.

9) PHOTOGRAPHIC SPEED
READING
(Determining the
photographic reading speed and the rate
of understanding of an unpublished long
new text, book or booklet supplied by
the committee of Memoriad organization) |
 |
|
Time to Read : 15 to 60 Minutes (Depend
on Reading Material)
Time to Answer : 15 to 30 Minutes
(Depend on Question Types)
This competition is open to everybody
whose speed of reading is 220 words or
over per minute. An unpublished long new
text, book or booklet not met before
anywhere will be given to the
competitors and a time will be kept. The
competitor finishing his or her reading
will signal the referee and put the
reading material down as closed and will
wait silently for others’ finishing
their readings.
After reading stage is over, reading
materials will be collected and a test
including questions about the read text
will be distributed to the competitors.
"The rates of understanding" will be
determined according to the number of
correct answers. The committee of
organization has the right of asking any
type of questions other than test types.
The competitors whose rate of
understanding is under 60% will be
disqualified. In case of ties in the
first three ranks, a second test
including additional questions about the
text will be given to the competitors in
equal ranks.
Photographic speed reading points will
be calculated as the multiplication of
reading speed value and the rate of
understanding. Let’s say a competitors
raw reading speed is 1400 words per
minute and his or her rate of
understanding is % 70, then the total
points count is (1400x0.70=) 980 words
per minute or points.
